Genetic parameter estimations of three traits used to evaluate South American leaf blight (SALB) in rubber tree

چکیده
Attack severity, sporulation intensity and stromata density are three symptoms of South American Leaf Blight caused by Microcyclus ulei (P. Henn.) v. Arx. evaluated in the field on one to three year-old rubber tree [Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell.-Arg.]. This genetic study under epidemiologic conditions of the Michelin plantation, Itiquira, State of Mato Grosso Brazil, used the data from two experimental fields made of 198 clones from 22 progenies. The results indicate that small-scale clone trial is an more adapted apparatus than the seedlings selection trial for achieving the best appreciation of individual values. Moreover, this paper shows high correlations among the three parameters and gives genetic prediction values. The interest for an evaluation of the three parameters is discussed. Finally, a selection with a calculated index shows that a selection under genetic values retains the same clones as a selection under phenotypic values.

Background Rubber tree [Hevea Braziliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell-Arg.], a native species of the Amazon Rainforest in South America, belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, is world’s major source of natural latex. Brazil, despite being the center of origin and diversity of the species and latex main producer at the end of XIX century, nowadays imports around 70% of the rubber consumed ...
متن کاملDe novo Transcriptome Analysis Reveals Distinct Defense Mechanisms by Young and Mature Leaves of Hevea brasiliensis (Para Rubber Tree)
Along with changes in morphology in the course of maturation, leaves of Hevea brasiliensis become more resistant to leaf diseases, including the South American Leaf Blight (SALB), a devastating fungal disease of this economically important tree species. To understand the underlying mechanisms of this defense, and to identify the candidate genes involved, we sequenced the Hevea leaf transcriptom...
متن کاملErasing the Past: A New Identity for the Damoclean Pathogen Causing South American Leaf Blight of Rubber
BACKGROUND South American leaf blight (SALB) of rubber has been the main constraint to production in its neotropical centre of origin since commercial plantations were first established. The fungal causal agent was identified and described more than a century ago but its precise placement within the Ascomycota still remains uncertain. Indeed, such is the ambiguity surrounding the pathogen that ...

متن کاملAssembly and Analysis of Differential Transcriptome Responses of Hevea brasiliensis on Interaction with Microcyclus ulei
Natural rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) is a tropical tree used commercially for the production of latex, from which 40,000 products are generated. The fungus Microcyclus ulei infects this tree, causing South American leaf blight (SALB) disease. This disease causes developmental delays and significant crop losses, thereby decreasing the production of latex. Currently several groups are working on o...
